Biology teacher Mr Locke has been teaching at Mira Costa for the past eight years. According to Locke, his passion for biology and teaching has driven him to inspire kids every day.
Locke spoke about how important it can be when you make an impact on a student’s life. He spoke on how he’s always had an interest for biology and animals, and how hes grateful that he can share that.
“I’m passionate about my subject, and I love sharing that.” said Locke, “I love sharing it with students, you know as they get excited or interested or something catches their attention, that’s the best part of it.”
According to Locke, his personal interests include reading, running, comic books, Pokemon Go, and above all, science. Locke stated that in the past speaking to students has informed him that it’s not always about the subject, but the class itself.
“I guess my goal is that I want material that I’m excited about to entertain and engage my students.” Said Locke, “One time a student told me that they never like science, but they liked my class, and that really stuck with me.”
Mr Locke is a well beloved teacher at Mira Costa High School, and that is shown through the students. Freshman Layla Mazry talked about how freshman year has been hard, but good teachers really make a difference.
“I actually love Mr Locke, he’s such a nice teacher” Said Mazry, “but he’s also a good teacher, like I’ve learned a lot of stuff and I’m actually really interested in what we’re learning about.”
Costa is extremely lucky to have a teacher like Mr Locke. Locke and his family have been a part of the community since 2000 and Costa students are very grateful for the wonderful learning environment he, as well as other teachers, provide.
“My daughter attended Costa and she always said that ‘Costa made me who I am today’” said Locke, “ and I honestly couldn’t think of a better review.
