Following the arrest of a 15-year-old sophomore on Tuesday, December 4, for possessing a firearm at school, Redondo Union faced another concerning situation in just 48 hours. On December 5th, around 9:15 AM, the school received an anonymous tip about a student possibly hiding a weapon on campus.
In an email circulated by Molly Lower, Assistant Principal at Redondo Union, reassurance was given that there wasn’t a credible threat. However, as a precaution, authorities initiated a safety sweep, prompting a campus lockdown.
Despite the email’s statement, students at RUHS shared photos on Snapchat alleging a second arrest on Tuesday, December 5. These claims remain unverified. However, the unsettling events in such a short span led students to caution their peers. There were warnings about a possible shooting on Wednesday, accompanied by the hashtag #stayinhometmrw, which circulated among students, prompting reposts among students.
