“Saltburn” shocks viewers with unimaginable scenes, nuanced, original plot

New release “Saltburn” is drawing immense attention due to its controversial plot and stellar actors. This psychological thriller draws the audience in and entertains with many twists and turns throughout. 

“Saltburn” stars actor Barry Keoghan who plays the protagonist, Oliver Quick. Quick is a creepy, insensitive, and cunning man who deliberately orchestrates a thrilling plan to take over the Saltburn estate.

Although Barry Keoghan plays the main character of the story, the real lore comes from Jacob Elordi’s character, Felix Catton, a trusting and generous man who lives and breathes privilege and a member of the Saltburn community. 

Fennell helped to write, direct, and produce “Saltburn.” Fennell is an English actress and filmmaker who has received multiple Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, and other notable nominations as well. 

Along with phenomenal writer Emerald Fennell, Linus Sandgren pushes the movie to its fullest potential with his spectacular cinematography. Sandgren is an Oscar-winning cinematographer who clearly wasn’t afraid to put his all into this movie. The eerie yet breathtaking scenes such as the unpredictable and shocking murders surpasses viewer expectations. 

“Saltburn” uses music from bands and singers such as MGMT, The Cheeky Girls, and Cold War Kids. The song, “Murder on the Dancefloor,” by Sophie Ellis-Bexter creates a tonal juxtaposition which was clever for the plot since the tracks reflected the psychological thrill of crime and obsession. The music choices in “Saltburn” brings the story to life and rope the audience in further.

The controversial scenes in “Saltburn” are the main sources of marketing for the film. The shocking and graphic scenes in the graveyard and bathroom scene left its viewers in utter disgust, and undeniably one of the most contentious films talked about this year.

Saltburn is more than just a thriller, it psychologically impacting the audience 131 minutes straight. “Saltburn” is rated R and is available in theaters and on demand.
