Link Crew organized a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Week starting on March 4 in support of Mira Costa students’ academic success, mental health, and well-being.
The week began with a rooted-in-gratitude activity during lunch at the Mustang Mall. Students wrote heart notes that were placed on the grass hill in the quad.
“The heart note was a great reflective activity where anyone could come to write a grateful message to their peers or advisors saying anything positive,” said junior Link Leader Will Neubauer.
During homeroom on Tuesday, students participated in “Golden Moments of Gratitude,” a Google Form that asked students to send a message of thanks to a Costa staff member during office hours, mindful meditation took place in room 80.
“SEL week was great–all the activities were really fun and interactive. I loved both working the scavenger bingo and visiting all the booths to complete it,” said junior Link Crew member Lila Murphy.
Other activities during the week included, students made rocks with a positive word or saying while unwinding with chill music during lunch Wednesday, scavengers hunt bingo game and bead making Thursday, and wearing green for Mental Health on Friday. On Friday, Kenny Johnson spoke about positivity and how impactful kindness can be on someone’s day.
“Link Crew has helped facilitate SEL Week in the past, so we reached out to Vice Principal Price to see if we could assist this year as well. She needed help running some of the activities, such as the gratitude garden and rock painting activities, so we jumped in,” said Link Crew advisor Maddie Hutchinson.
