Jenna and Alana reminisce on their time in La Vista

Theme Editor

After many long nights and procrastinated pages, we can’t believe that our time on LaVista is over. We have made so many lifelong friends and so many memories that we will cherish forever. Especially to Sophia Luckey, the very best assistant anyone can ask for: I don’t know anyone that draws soccer balls better than you. We thank you for all the laughs and all the times you’ve come into the backroom with a smile and probably a starbucks.

I was so excited when Alana told me she wanted to be my Theme Editor this time last year. We’ve had so many highs, lows, laughs and tears together. My favorite memory with Alana is when we watch music videos and blast the songs until everyone else is annoyed with us.

I started LaVista as a beginning journalism student in my freshman year. I loved joining every other day to watch a movie and take notes then talk about it. Sophomore year I joined LaVista as a staff writer, writing on basically whatever I wanted to. My junior year is when I joined the editorial team as Exec. Theme Editor with my amazing friend Charlotte Levy. I want to thank Charlotte for all her amazing stories she wrote for me and all the times she came in after school for me. I loved doing theme because of all the freedom it came with and that I really could do whatever I wanted on the 2-page spread. Charlotte and I ended on a bang when we put all the Colorado schools in Wyoming for the 2023 college map! I promise we both have good geography skills! Senior year was by far the best because of Alana and Sophia. Our September issue was our favorite probably because we got to write about Taylor Swift and compare our concert pictures. First semester was a rollercoaster of emotions especially with college applications, but coming into the 2nd period with my two friends made it all worth it. We made awesome pages (with the help of the incredible Kaden Socretes) and in the blink of an eye, my 4 years with LaVista is over.

From starting with beginning journalism my sophomore year, to photo editor my junior year, and finally ending my high school career as theme editor, I could not be more grateful and appreciative of my time on La Vista.

The amount of people I have grown close with and all the events I have gotten to experience because of La Vista made the stressful days spent working on pages and writing stories completely worth it. There are so many people who bring me joy everytime I walk into the classroom and who always bring a smile to my face. To the rest of my theme family, Jenna and Sophia, you guys are truly everything to me and it hurts to imagine us not being together next year. To Sofia and Ava, the most hardworking editor-in-chiefs ever, I apologize on behalf of myself and Jenna for giving you guys borderline heart attacks when the page wasn’t done in time or the font size was accidentally 12 point instead of 10 point.

I never would have pictured myself taking an interest into journalism and now, it’s hard to picture what my life will be like in college without it.

To our amazing staff aka our best friends: We apologize for all the singing, but we deep down think you enjoyed it. We could not ask for a better group for the paper, LaVista would not be what it is without all of your beautiful faces! We’ll miss all of you dearly, but we will be back before you know it! Hasta La Vista, baby xo Jenna and Alana
