Hi! This is Kit and Sophia, signing on for their first ever column! Our (now former – crying on the floor) editor-in-chief and personal deity Ava Nicols ever so graciously entrusted us to take over her beloved column. We hope to do it justice, but be warned we will probably not be as infamously comedic as Pardon Our Take (Big ups Eric). Here we go! 

This past weekend, the two of us got all gussied up and drove 6 hours to prom. Prom in this day and age is just a slightly elevated version of homecoming. However, we were both able to enjoy our time dancing and smoking friends in Black Jack. Overall, 10/10 would do again. 

As summer break is approaching, we are practically peeing our pants with excitement. Summer is a time for sleeping in (you will not be missed, zero period) and tanning on the beach. However, the weather has made the latter difficult. Where has the sun been recently? We expected a warm welcome to the break, and are thoroughly disappointed with the gray skies. Southern California, please do better. 

On top of this, summer school is a doozy. Kit is fortunate enough to escape this summer prison, however Sophia will be getting a jump on Econ and Gov through OFL Online. Thoughts and prayers to all who but especially for Sophia please please please.  

Although the May Gray and the June Gloom is bumming us out, we cannot wait for the freedom summer will bring. Kit is headed to New York to report on activism and public policy at the New York Times Summer Academy, and Sophia is embarking on a perilous 11 mile journey to USC for their sports journalism summer program. They will be exploring their respective cities and honing their writing craft to bring you even more entertaining stories next year.

We will miss you all so much over summer, but can’t wait to be back and better than ever come the 2024-25 school year. HAGS!
