Aspiring musician Wright writes music

With the hopes of being able to spread her love of music to others, senior Maxine Wright produces and plays her own music available to stream on SoundCloud.

Initially, Wright was inspired by rock bands like Black Sabbath and Nirvana that led to her start in creating music. Wright’s journey with music began when she was in fifth grade, with her dad teaching her how to play the guitar. At the start of sixth grade, after her parents gifted her first bass guitar, Maxine got an iPad for school, which automatically had the Garageband App downloaded.

“From there I kept making tracks until I was able to get some decent equipment and work on my chops,” Wright said. “ Usually my writing process begins with one idea, maybe a lyric or a chord progression, which I then record into Ableton 12 on my computer.”

Wright has now gone on to create her own DIY home studio, where she records music. Wright is now working on her own album, as well as a single for her band “Manchurian Candidate.” The band consists of Trey Claypool on drums, Sean Roll on guitar, Cooper Lelchuk on vocals, and Wright on bass guitar. Manchurian Candidate played their first gig earlier this year on May 18th.

“My favorite memory with music was probably seeing the Icelandic band Sigur Ros in Santa Barbara,” Wright describes. “It started raining in the middle of the set, and the atmosphere was just perfect.”

Wright’s meaningful experience with music has led her to make her own SoundCloud profile, which is an artist-first platform powered by a global community of artists and listeners on the pulse of knowing what’s new and upcoming in the music industry. Wright’s SoundCloud is linked on her Instagram account, @Unfortunateprune, under the profile biography.

“I’ve always been inspired by artists that make me feel things that I never feel outside of music. I want to be able to give that feeling to others,” Wright said.

Taking a look into Wright’s sound cloud, she had written 6 tracks in the past four years. Her style of music is under the categories of gothic, post punk, and alternative rock.
