Mira Costa’s Rising Art Star: Eva Asiddao’s art and activism inspire many

Eva Asiddao, a senior at Mira Costa High School, is making waves in both the art world and her community through her Instagram page, @evaatheartist, where she shares her work with over 700 followers. Asiddao’s impact extends beyond her digital presence, influencing real-world change and creative advocacy across the South Bay.

Asiddao’s passion for art began early, growing up in an artistic household where creative expression was always encouraged. This deep connection to creativity has allowed her to explore artistic opportunities and experiences that many teenagers may never encounter.

“I actually started my Instagram four years ago, so I could share an art piece I had created for the 2020 presidential elections,” said Asiddao. “Art has always been a central aspect of my life, without art, I would have no life.”

Asiddao is inspired by the vibrant mural scene in Los Angeles, which includes artistic heroes such as Judy Baca and other artists from the Social Public Art Resource Center (SPARC).

“Murals in Los Angeles are some of my biggest inspirations,” said Asiddao. “Now that I am a working artist and muralist, I realize that murals aren’t just something nice to look at—they are one of the most impactful forms of advocacy because they physically change the space and community where they are painted.”

Asiddao’s work goes beyond visual beauty; it also serves as a medium for advocacy and activism. She partners with organizations like Create CA, Youth Liberty Squad of ACLU SoCal, and Indivisible Arts, all dedicated to causes that range from social justice to mental health. Asiddao’s advocacy-driven art spreads a powerful message of unity and healing.

“Art has the power to unite because art is the language of the soul,” said Asiddao. “When we allow ourselves to realize the importance of the arts and the historical impact of the arts in our world, we are allowing ourselves to realize that art is the deepest form of communication and connection.”

Students at Mira Costa High School are taking notice of Asiddao’s work, including Joshua Sheffey, a junior, who has recently started following her journey. Sheffey is one of many young people at Mira Costa who have been moved by Eva’s art and activism.

“She’s a role model for anyone who wants to make a difference,” Sheffey said. “Seeing someone from our school create change and stuff like that is really cool. I feel inspired by how she uses her art to give a good message to everybody.”

Asiddao’s brother, a senior at Mira Costa, who expresses his own creativity through music, believes in the power of art as an emotional outlet. He is extremely proud of the work his sister is doing for the community and truly shares the same goal of spreading love to the world.

“Art is deeply prevalent in not just Eva’s life but the life of my whole family. We are all artists to some degree,” said Asiddao. “For Eva’s success in particular, I am extremely proud of the recent completion of her mural at the new Hermosa Vista school.”

Asiddao’s artistic journey has been filled with numerous memorable milestones, with her work being displayed in over 20 exhibits. Asiddao has completed five murals in four different cities, and she has spoken to thousands of people for change in the California state legislation. Asiddao uses her strong platform to advocate for policy changes that support social justice and the arts.

“I’ve had the chance to meet government officials, curators, and other advocates, and every conversation I’ve had has pushed me to want to do more for my community,” said Asiddao. “I hope to continue using my art to advocate for causes that matter. Art is a tool for healing and I want to keep pushing that message.”

As Asiddao continues to paint her way through Los Angeles and beyond, one thing is clear: her art, activism, and vision for a more connected world will continue to inspire and impact the South Bay community for years to come. “Art is about connection,” she says. “And through connection, we can find healing and peace.
