Seniors clean windows for iACT charity organizaiton

Seniors Kai Monaghan, Jake Lerner and Will Neubaur created their Window Cleaning Business in early June not just to make summer money, but to allow refugee kids a chance to play the sport they love.

“We are proud of our success in window cleaning because we overcame the challenges and setbacks of not getting all door-to-door sales, which tested our resolve,” said Neubaur. “Despite the frustration and uncertainty, we refused to give up and kept pushing forward.”

Although the boys experienced setbacks in the startup of their business, according to Neubaur  they found other ways to get customers by publicizing and creating flyers to send out. They used popular apps like Nextdoor to gain customers, and before they knew it they were working multiple hours a week, according to Neubaur.

“Our perseverance and determination throughout the summer have led us to build something we are all passionate about,” said Monaghan. “We truly  created something we can truly be proud of.”

The boys charge $5 for standard and smaller windows, while larger windows are priced at $10. According to Monaghan, they also cleaned inside and outside windows while providing their own equipment and ladder.

According to Monagahn, they were inspired by the iACT organization (Refugee-led Education and Sports Program), which gives kids from 3rd world countries the opportunity to play soccer and be coached in different soccer and academics. The decision of which program they wanted to contribute to was easy for them as each of them have a strong passion for soccer and play on the Mira Costa Soccer team. Window cleaning in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach allowed the boys  to give 50% of  their earnings to the iACT organization in Africa.

“We are grateful we have the opportunity to help the young kids,” said Lerner. “ We wanted to share our love for soccer with these kids who have way less than us, but share the same passion for the sport.”

According to Lerner, they made it possible for 75 underprivileged kids to play soccer for a whole year. It overall improved the life of many of these refugee children, unable to play soccer. Also, iACT is an amazing program that brings positive change to the world during a time of global separation and according to Lerner it made all those hours cleaning the windows so worth it.

“Our business was more than just window cleaning  for all of us,” said Monaghan. “It was about working towards something meaningful to us 3 and by the end of the summer, we raised a total of $750 for refugee children in Africa to play soccer.”
