On October 23rd, the Mira Costa varsity girls tennis team lost their game to Palos Verdes in a close match 7-11. Their loss was just a bump in their journey to CIF, and with more games to come, their drive to succeed is even stronger.

The girls performance in singles consisted of: Sam Beaupre winning 1 of her 3 matches, Allison Chin winning 1 of her 3 matches, and Juliet Zuckerwise winning none of her matches against Palos Verdes. The girls performance in doubles consisted of: Calista Chun and Charlee Rainey winning 1 of their 3 matches, Ava Rastegar-Panah and Caitlin Kawalec winning 2 of their 3 matches, and Malia Fernandez and Eva Lansky winning 2 of their 3 matches.

“We had already played Palos Verdes a few weeks ago,” varsity tennis player Juliet Zuckerwise said. “We have always known they are strong and deep and we knew that we were going to have to fight for every point even if it doesn’t go our way.”

According to Zuckerwise, together as a team, they will continue to strive for greatness. One hard game doesn’t account for all the other games to come, and more opportunities to secure a win. The girls plan on building from their mistakes, and will come back even harder next time.

”Even though we lost this match,” Zuckerwise said. “We competed as a team and some changes will probably be made the next time we play them.”
