Tyler the Creator’s new album titled “Chromakopia,” features 14 new songs. It was released on October 28th.
The album was written in inspiration to Tyler the Creator’s mother, Bonita Smith. He also addresses the things he learned growing up in Los Angeles.
The new album has been a hit or miss for many. While some enjoy the new songs others say the lyrics sound unsettled. Chromakopia’s release caught fans off guard, especially since he previously said he wouldn’t release new music this year.
The buildup to the album was filled with mysterious videos featuring Tyler in a mask and military gear, leading viewers into a story that hinted at something deep and complex. With creative visuals, the promotion had everyone guessing about what the album would really be about.
Songs on the album such as “Noid” and “Rat Tah Tah” show Tyler wrestling with the pressures that come with fame. You can sense his distrust of the people around him, revealing how complicated his life has become.
Throughout the album, Tyler also delves into his struggles with commitment and love, exploring how his relationship with his father has shaped his view of family. Tracks like “Like Him” reveal the pain of his father’s absence, suggesting that in order to love himself, he must reconcile with his past.
Each song serves as a lens through which listeners can connect with Tyler’s vulnerabilities, making the album feel both intimate and universal. One of the most striking aspects of Chromakopia is that it doesn’t follow the narrative-driven style of his previous albums.
While Chromakopia aims to resonate with a wide audience, some listeners have reported feeling disconnected from its themes. This has led to a range of mixed reviews, with opinions varying widely on how well the album succeeds in forging that connection.
The album features artists such as Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, Childish Gambino, Schoolboy Q, Doechii, and on the track “Sticky,” Lil Wayne, GloRilla and Sexyy Red.
