On November 2 the Mustangs took on Sierra Canyon in a 5 set thriller. The Mustangs defeated the Trailblazers clinching a seat in state playoffs.
According to Junior outside hitter Simone Roslon, The Mustangs knew the intensity would be high in their matchup, keeping them on their toes if they wanted to win the match.
“We upped our defense efforts leading us to be able to score more in transition,” said Roslon, “It was super important to us to respond after a slow first set.”
The Mustangs adjusted their game plan after the first set loss. Although they knew they couldn’t make the finals of regional playoffs, they knew they had to win this game for states.
“After losing the first set, realizing we couldn’t get to the finals we had to reset and play for the team,” said senior libero Taylor Deckert, “We all put in full effort to do it for the team.”
As the Mustangs rematch Sierra Canyon again in states, they will prepare by watching film and to continue to practice hard. According to junior setter Milly McGee the team feels confident going into the matchup and hopes to defeat them again.
“After not making the finals we have been dialed in practice and in the film room,” According to McGee. “Our goal is to make the finals and it starts with this game”.
The team continues preparing for the upcoming state tournament starting next Wednesday. The schedule should be released in the next few days, and the Mustangs are projected to be a high seed.
