Starting on November 4th, e-bikes will need to display a certification sticker that permits the vehicles onto campus entrance. Students must complete the e-bike course certification online in order to receive a sticker.
“[Students] will be redirected and need to come through the front gate, so their bike can be held in our e-bike holding area near the main administration building,” says Mrs. Price in an announcement. “Keep in mind that parents will be contacted to pick up these e-bikes after school.”
Due to the influx of bikes near the administration building, Mira Costa found that the front gate drop off was congested for every day drop off. However, Costa junior Charlize Zavaleta found that her pick up at the front gate went by as usual.
“I don’t think there was any difference in congestion that I noticed,” Zavaleta recalls. Likewise, the front office has confirmed that only about eight bikes were held on Monday from the new policy. It has been noticed that these new regulations have not diminished the amount of bikes on campus, but has created more knowledgeable bike riders.
“If I hadn’t taken driver’s ed, I would have definitely felt more educated on the rules of the road,” Costa Sophomore Dana Sprenkle says. For more information, the ebike certification program can be found at mbusd.org.
