Happy turkey month!
November is known for all the food we get to stuff in our mouths: stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. However, it is also a month of gratitude. Now of course you can be thankful for the copious amounts of food you get to eat, but we encourage you to take a moment to think about all the other blessings in your life.
It’s easy to brush over the fact that we live in a very privileged city. We get to walk outside every day and see the beautiful ocean, something we forget that not everybody gets to do. We live 11 miles away from the heart of Los Angeles, a bustling city filled with culture and vibrancy. Our location gives us a ton of opportunities, and we must be mindful of how lucky we are.
Another blessing we often forget is how great of a school Mira Costa is. We have state-of-the-art facilities, a plethora of AP classes, and a very qualified staff that cares for our well-being. Compared to other districts across LA and the country, we are very fortunate to have access to so many resources.
During this month, take a minute to thank your loved ones. Family members, friends, and others are the support systems that we often take for granted. We don’t always realize how important they are in our lives.
Studies show that gratitude is proven to greatly improve our mental and physical health, as well as create stronger relationships and expand your perspectives. Being thankful is infectious; if you are more aware of the blessings in your life, the people around you will start to do the same, bringing our community even closer together.
Even through these uncertain times, it’s crucial to remember and be grateful for all the little joys that bring us happiness. Focusing on these seemingly insignificant things helps us stay positive and become happier people.
Take five minutes out of your day and write down what you’re grateful for. That is what we are doing today: Kit is grateful for the abundance of food in her house, and Sophia is grateful for her cat sleeping with her every night.
