With the Mira Costa Girls Golf Team’s season coming to an end, it is important to look back on the feats and challenges they obtained during this fall.
It was a fast-paced season filled with strong competition and a tight schedule, but the team was able to persevere. Ending the season with 3 wins and 5 losses, it is clear that the Girls Golf Team was victorious.
“We became cohesive in a short amount of time,” says varsity member Sophia Walker, “It is essential for our players’ success to feel comfortable, grow their game, and have fun too.”
This team spirit so evidently displayed by teammates seems to be what was crucial to navigating such a hectic and busy season.
That same spirit came in handy when looking at the heightened competition the Mustangs faced this year.
“The competition was tough,” Walker explained. “On my team, everyone is at a different level; individually, everyone has good and bad days, however, it takes the entire team to beat the more competitive teams.”
Varsity Girls Golf member, Capri Trozak also reflects on the benefits of hard work, for it allowed her to accomplish her golfing goals this season.
“My goal for this year was to make Varsity and get my score average down. I’m happy to report I’ve accomplished both,” says Trozak, “It was a challenge, but I’m so glad I preserved”.
Players had to rely on each other’s strengths when facing top schools, and though that tough competition didn’t always result in a win, it allowed the Mustangs to stay competitive and grow stronger as a team as a whole.
Through the hard competition, Girls Golf members reflect on some highlights the season provided. This includes the opportunity for the team to play at two private country clubs.
After the Mustang’s final match only a few individuals moved on to compete in CIF. “This year, I advanced to CIF individuals at Los Robles. I did not play my best, but I still had a lot of fun,” says Walker.
Despite her performance not being her best, her dedication to the sport and appearance is reflective of the hard work, resilience and growth the team has made over the season.
For some, this season marked the end of a memorable journey with Mira Costa Golf. “Overall, it was a great season. As a senior, it’s my last year on the team, and I will miss playing golf for Mira Costa. It has been a great experience, and I have grown as a person on and off the course, “ says Walker.
Walker’s response highlights how a program can be about much more than scores and rankings and instead be about personal growth and a team’s bond.
