Senior flag football star Sophie Guitron was invited to attend the Under Armour All-American Game and the U.S. Army All-American Flag Bowl. She will represent the state of California and the Costa Athletic Department at both of these events.
“I’m constantly inspired by my family, because they’ve shown me how to work hard and always chase my dreams,” Guitron said. “They have encouraged me to push everyday and to continue to improve. Their support always reminds me how far my family has come.”
Under Armour will host the All-American game on Jan. 2, in Orlando, Florida. According to Guitron, high school girls around the country are invited to compete against each other.
“This event isn’t just young women from the California area,” Guitron said. “There will be many athletes attending from California, but also from all across the country and I look forward to meeting all these amazing athletes.”
According to Guitron, she will be playing on a team with other girls from the West Coast. Guitron plays several positions, but claims she will be dominating on the field as receiver and possibly corner-
back.
“I will prepare for this event the same way I prepare for all my big-time games,” Guitron said. “I will be in the weight room, and will continue to practice my routes and speed.”
Guitron will also participate in the U.S Army All-American Flag Bowl in Frisco, Texas at the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters on Dec.18-21., and was once again invited along with other top athletes from around the country. According to Guitron, the Flag Bowl is similar to the Under Armour Game, however the Bowl only consists of senior athletes. There will be a game between the east and west sides of the country, where Guitron will participate in a 7v7 game, along with a combine where each athlete can look at their stats.
“This opportunity is amazing because I have recently been working on the 7v7,” Guitron said. “I’m extremely excited and grateful to travel and play with other talented seniors.”
Guitron, recently committed to Keiser University in Florida to continue her academic and athletic career.
“Seeing the level of talent that is out there on the team motivates me to keep working everyday,” Guitron said. “I’m so excited to learn from the athletes and coaches and can’t wait to play the sport I love at the collegiate level.”
According to Guitron, she will always be grateful for the family she has gained and skills she has learned at Costa. Guitron has greatly enjoyed seeing her improvement from last season to now.
“Costa gave me an amazing platform to practice a different format of Flag Football,” Guitron said. “It offered a different perspective and I’m excited to use the lessons and skills I learned at Keiser.”
