Multiple times a year, a multitude of Costa sports host camps for young kids in the neighborhood to come and learn from experienced Costa athletes and coaches. A few sports that have recently hosted a camp have been Cheer, Softball and Dance.

“The camps are a great opportunity for us to get involved in our community,” senior  Maggie Ryan said. “Meeting all the little kids who are so eager to learn is the best part.”

According to Ryan, the Cheer team prepares dances, sidelines, arts and crafts and leadership activities. The kids ranging in ages four to twelve are split up by grade and rotate throughout the different stations, where they learn or do something new every time.

“We hold multiple camps throughout the year, and the girls favorite part is definitely the talent show,” Ryan said. “It’s so fun for us cheerleaders to see all the young girls push themselves out of their comfort zone and meet new friends.”

Softball also holds a similar camp and their most recent one was Nov. 11 and according to Senior Lola Fasano, campers attend their camp from grades one through eight. According to Fasano, their day starts with a stretch, then they do fielding, pitching and catching. Then, after some warm ups they do scrimmages with the campers.

“The scrimmage at the end is my favorite part and the campers,” Fasano said. “We are able to coach the teams and we get super excited when we watch them succeed with our help.”

The Dance team holds two of these camps a year, their most recent one was also on Nov.11. According to Senior Alexis Hara, their camp invites kids ranging from 1st grade to 6th grade. Hara describes that one dancer is assigned to a group of campers and they then create a “family.” Then the dancers lead warmups and across the floor before they teach a dance that they later perform. They then lead the campers into arts and crafts, play a game, eat lunch, and then end their day with some more practice, Hara stated.

“I love getting to know the campers,” Hara said. “They all have such big, sweet, funny and unique personalities and I love spending my day with each and every one of them.”
