Boys soccer started off their season strong with three straight wins. The Mustangs have 12 goals for and only one goal against.
According to senior winger/forward Kai Monaghan, the reason for so much offensive success is because of the different tactics they use that their opponents cannot stop.
“Our team is very tall this year and we have used our height effectively,” Monaghan said. “Because of our height, we are able to score goals off of headers and corner kicks.”
According to Monaghan, the team’s success is a result of having all played together for a long time. They have built chemistry by playing club together and most of the team’s starters have played at Costa for the past three years. This chemistry helps them on the field.
“That connection makes it easier to read each other’s movements, communicate better, and work together as a team,” Monaghan said. “It also helps that we all trust each other and have a strong bond off the field, which translates into how we play. Our strong start really comes down to that chemistry and the effort we’ve put in during practices to stay sharp and focused.”
The Mustangs looked to continue their undefeated streak as they took on Da Vinci yesterday. Scores were not available at the time of print.
“We focus on staying connected on and off the field, maintaining our energy in every practice and game, and learning from both our successes and challenges. Each win builds our confidence and strengthens our team chemistry, driving us to continue improving and striving for our goals throughout the season.”
According to senior center back Trent Zimmerman, their main focus is on their matchup today against JSerra Catholic, who are also undefeated coming into the game.
“We use every win to push us forward and motivate us to create great momentum moving forward,” Monaghan said.
