On Tuesday, the Mira Costa boys took on Riverside Poly and defeated them 61-49. With this dominant win, the Mustangs remain undefeated this season advancing their record to 11-0. Costa boys basketball is currently ranked first in the Southern Section and number one in the state of California.

After coming off of wins in both the Ocean View Tournament and the Bellflower Tournament, junior forward Jayden Kainsinger says that the team is consistently building confidence and will continue to work off of their recent successes leading to the game tomorrow against the Salesian Mustangs.

“Our team is doing a good job sticking with the plans we make in practice and staying poised even if we get off to a rocky start,” Kainsinger said. “We’re off to a great start this season and I’m super proud of this team and where we’re at.”

The Mustangs are persistent in refining their game with intense conditioning and practices to maintain their victorious streak. Senior Forward Eneasi Piuleini says that the team’s diligence in the lab has led to improvements on the court and continues to show during the intense moments of the games.

“Basically it was a battle of who was more well conditioned and we knew we were more fit, which was displayed last night,” Piuleini said. “It all depended on us to lock in and stick to our defensive principles. It felt great after winning such a tough game, knowing we all stuck together and fought to win.”

The Mustangs were determined to sustain their excellent play as they prepared for yesterday’s matchup against Salesian. Scores were not available at the time of print. They aim to keep their success going throughout the season.
