Sophomore Lumi Pollack is balancing her schoolwork with an exciting acting career as she prepares for her upcoming film, Autumn and the Black Jaguar.
Pollack’s passion for acting began at just eight years old. Despite her enthusiasm, she initially had to convince her parents to support her dream.
“My parents initially did not want me to do it,” Pollack shared. “But I later convinced them to let me take audition lessons, and I ended up booking a role shortly afterward, which kickstarted my career.”
Since then, Pollack has never struggled to find motivation. Her love for acting and entertaining others keeps her inspired.
“I have always loved performing,” she said. “Bringing characters to life and becoming someone else is so exhilarating. What’s so fun about working in the industry is that everyone there is passionate about their job and loves what they do. That energy creates a welcoming and lively onset environment.”
However, balancing her acting career with academics has been a challenge.
“The hardest part about being an actor and a student is just the balance,” Pollack explained. “I don’t want to abandon one to commit more to the other, but finding a balance is key.”
Pollack’s determination and perseverance have allowed her to excel in both areas. Despite the challenges, she remains steadfast in achieving her goals.
“No matter how hard the work or tough the challenge, I stay focused on my goals, which helps me reach new successes each year,” Pollack said.
This year, she’s particularly excited about her latest project, Autumn and the Black Jaguar.
“Although I have enjoyed all of the projects I’ve been in, my recent movie Autumn and the Black Jaguar holds a special place in my heart,” she said.
The film follows a young girl named Autumn, played by Pollack, who grows up in the Amazon Rainforest alongside a baby jaguar. When Autumn moves to New York, she struggles with leaving her beloved animal friend. Later, upon discovering the jaguar is in danger, she embarks on a wild journey back to the jungle to save it.
“I committed to that movie for about a year while training with jaguars in Mexico,” Pollack revealed. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience—a wild journey I will never forget.”
To prepare for her role, Pollack spent nearly a year living in Mexico, working daily with jaguars as they grew from cubs to adulthood. She rehearsed with them to build familiarity and trust, eventually transitioning into filming once the animals were fully grown.
