The Costa baseball and dance teams dove into the holiday season by holding fundraisers selling Christmas trees and festive decorations to raise money for their programs.
“As a member of the team, the fundraiser to me is a good time to further strengthen team chemistry,” senior baseball player Elijah Fox said. “It is really a fun experience and a great way to bond before the season heats up. We sold around 700 trees this year which was so amazing .”
According to Fox, the annual Christmas tree lot raises money for the baseball program. The team sells Christmas trees, raffle tickets, and merchandise. It is a two day process, the first day consists of setting up the parking lot, followed by the whole team loading the trees onto customers’ cars. The trees the team sells are shipped from Oregon, explained Fox. The upperclassmen help hand-deliver trees to homes as well.
“All the money we raise is used towards the funding of our field maintenance, new equipment, uniforms and so much more,” Fox said. “The most important part though is we build community and create great memories together.”
The Costa dance team organizes a similar event, with each dance team member soliciting family and friends to purchase wreaths, garlands and holiday decorations. The team started promoting their fundraiser mid-December and delivered the decorations on Dec.7. According to Senior team captain Alexis Hara, they raised a total of $20,000 for the dance team, which exceeded their original goal.
“My favorite part was working together with my friends and teammates to organize and distribute all the wreaths, as we were all listening and singing to Christmas music,” Hara said. “It was definitely a great and enjoyable start to the upcoming holiday season!”
