Senior Charlie Rosenthal and standout player at Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) Academy is stepping into a new role as the assistant coach for Costa’s boys varsity soccer team.

Despite his impressive skill set and passion for the game, Rosenthal is unable to play for the Costa team due to contractual obligations with LAFC. However, his love for soccer and his desire to contribute to the Costa program led him to accept the assistant coach position offered by the team’s head coach Alfred Brown.

“Since I wasn’t allowed to play for the program, I looked for other ways to get involved,” Rosenthal said. “With all my experience, head coach Brown gave me the opportunity to coach alongside him and I was super grateful for the trust he has shown in me to help the staff this season.”

Rosenthal has played soccer for years, starting his career on the local Sand and Surf team at age eleven. After quickly gaining success in soccer, LAFC scouted him and he earned a spot after impressing their coaching team at tryouts, allowing Rosenthal to sign in 2021.

“I’ve had a love for sports since I was young, but soccer always stood out to me,” Rosenthal said. “After winning a bunch of tournaments I started to get scouted and I was super excited when I received an invite to tryout for the [LAFC]team.”

Rosenthal has achieved many accolades during his time at LAFC including his professional debut  and three USA Men’s Youth Nationals team camp invitations. Rosenthal has now committed to play soccer at Georgetown University in the fall.

“I am super lucky to receive all these opportunities I have been given,” Rosenthal said. “I am ready to make the best of my opportunities at the college level next year”.

Rosenthal will be ready to coach the boys in the upcoming season and he hopes to share what he has learned while playing for the academy. According to Rosenthal, he wants to do his part to help the team win the championship.

“I think it’s super important that we create a good culture and environment,” Rosenthal said. “This team has a lot of potential this season and I can’t wait to see all we can accomplish.”
