Costa girls soccer played West Torrance High School on Tuesday for Senior Night. The Mustangs came out victorious with a 3-0 win, marking yet another strong performance this season.
The Mustangs kicked off the game with an early goal from senior forward Bianca Bottene, who scored just four minutes into the game.
“Playing Senior Night added a lot more emotion to the game,” sophomore forward Hayley Kase said. “We knew we had to make this game special for the seniors, and our performance reflected that.”
Just a few minutes after the first goal, senior forward Tandia Gendron snuck the ball in after recieving a cross pass from senior midfielder Mckenna Cooper.
“The connection for that play was great,” Gendron said. “Mckenna’s pass was perfect and I’m glad I could finish it to help the team.”
As the first half progressed, Costa pressed. Costa’s defense remained solid, allowing no goals to be scored on West’s end. Heading into half-time with a 2-0 lead, Costa’s focus remained steady.
“Our defense really helped hold it down in the first half,” senior defender Abby Slusser said. “It gave our offense the confidence to keep attacking and creating chances.”
In the second half, Costa sealed the deal. Cooper scored a bottom left shot off of a cross pass from senior Katherine Sarnoff. Today the team will face Palos Verdes at 3:00pm.
“We lost to PV earlier so we hope to carry some of the momentum from senior night and come out victorious,” Gendron said. “We are extremely excited to build off the success of our previous wins.”
