The new assistant coach for the girls’ beach volleyball team, Kahlee York, has a strong background in both playing and mentoring. She started playing indoor and beach volleyball at 12 but focused on indoor during high school, as high school beach volleyball wasn’t officially established until a few years after she graduated.

During her high school career, she earned Freshman Player of the Year, was named team MVP in 2014, and received All-Prep All-Area honors in 2014 and 2015. Her team won regional championships in 2013 and 2014 and reached the State Final Four in 2014. At the national level, York’s team finished in the top three during her sophomore year, and in her junior season, they were ranked No. 1 before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

She continued her career at Louisiana State University, where her senior season was her most successful with a 24-8 record. She has also competed in and won several AVP tournaments. Beyond her playing experience, York is passionate about the mental and physical aspects of being an athlete. From her time at LSU, she has learned that by focusing on personal growth before external competition, you will be more successful. She also advocates for women’s health in sports, specifically in health and nutrition, ensuring that athletes feel their best while performing at their peak.

Now at Costa, York is eager to work with a talented all-female coaching staff, whom she describes as not only great coaches but great people. She is excited to help young athletes transition from high school to college, guiding them through their unique experiences while emphasizing both performance and well-being.

“I’ve heard sensational things about the level and culture here at costa, my goal is to help build off of what they have already created by bringing my unique education and volleyball experiences to help us reach our goals on and off the court.”
