Seniors Tajee Mobley (140 lbs.), Justin Tam (152 lbs) and Joey Beck (135 lbs.) of the Mustangs wrestling team attended the CIF Individauls on Feb. 17-18.

Tam struggled through his two matches and fell short in both. He was eliminated on the first day of the playoffs. Mobley finished the tournament with one win and two losses, knocking him out of contention. Beck salvaged two wins and one loss on the first day, pushing him to the second day of play, where he was eliminated in his first match.

“We really had a rough year. It was almost like a rebuilding season,” Beck said.

Although the team suffered losses throughout the year, Beck had an all-star season individually.

Beck and Tam each took home a first-place championship in their weight classes in the Bay League Finals. The win for Beck was the first varsity-level tournament victory of his career.

“To win a league finals tournament has been a goal of mine for two years now,” Beck said. “I was very pleased to have that and my first varsity tournament.”

Beck’s victory was even more special because he was unable to compete last year due to a hip flexor sprain.
Along with the seniors who competed in individuals, Costa will also be losing senior Weston Carico, who won Bay League, and was a key contributor for the Mustangs this year but was knocked out of CIF contention.

“My boys work hard and gave everything they had. We can only get better from here on out,” coach Quinn Ryan said.
