Mira Costa placed first in the Redondo-hosted Varsity Classic tournament whose games took place at Mira Costa on April 29 and 30. Of seven games, the Mustangs swept six of them.
Costa beat La Jolla 25-13 and 25-14, North Torrance 25-14 and 25-20, Foothill 25-18 and 25-14, South Torrance 25-14 and 25-15, Valencia 25-13 and 25-17, Westlake 25-15, 23-25 and 15-9, and San Clemente 25-15 and 25-21. The Mustangs placed first in the tournament after winning each game.
Senior Weston Carico was named MVP of the tournament, demonstrating his versatility and high level of play.
As the Bay League competition comes to a close, Costa will play Redondo away on May 3. Costa’s record is currently 29-1 overall and 6-0 in the Bay League.
