After setting a Mira Costa softball record for most runs batted in during a single game, junior shortstop Meghan von Behren is set to take her skills to Loyola Marymount University in the 2012-13 school year.
Von Behren was offered a scholarship to LMU in late February of this year and after considering her other options, accepted the offer in early March.
“I was lucky enough to have other options to consider, but I decided that LMU was the best fit for me,” von Behren said.
Much of Meghan’s success can be attributed to her work ethic and dedication. Costa softball coach Richard Amberik believes that von Behren was offered the scholarship due to her outstanding performance this year.
“She made leaps and bounds this past season,” Amberik said. “In another year she will be prepared to handle the trials and tribulations of Division I softball.”
When she steps onto the field she accepts the responsibility to play to her fullest potential.
“She’s all business all the time,” Amberik said. “Practice or game, when she steps on the field she’s focused on her responsibility.”
Outside of Costa, Von Behren helps coach the 12-year-old Manhattan Beach softball All Star team at practices and games.
“She has a great positive attitude and is always trying to improve herself so that she can be the best person she can be,” teammate Breanna Kelly said.
Von Behren admits that the selection process was stressful at times but is looking forward to becoming a collegiate athlete.
“I have always wanted to play Division I softball,” von Behren said. “When I got the offer I was so excited that I couldn’t hold back a smile.”
