The Mira Costa boys lacrosse team beat Culver City, 15-7, at Culver City High School on April 28, improving its overall record to 13-3 and Bay League record to 11-2. Junior midfielder Thomas Farrell led Costa with four goals.

“We’re finishing the season strong, and I’m doing my part to get the team to the championship,” Farrell said.

The Mustangs’ last game of the season is today at Palos Verdes Peninsula at 4 p.m.

Costa also beat the Chadwick Dolphins at Costa on April 23 at 7 p.m. Sophomore midfielder Austin Hafdell scored three early goals in Costa’s 12-4 win.

“Chadwick was a relatively easy opponent, so everyone was able to play, and the team got ready for CIF, which is coming up for us next week,” Hafdell said.

The Mustangs started the game against Culver quickly. Hafdell scored his first goal six minutes into the game and was followed 15 seconds with a goal by senior midfielder Conor Murphy. Hafdell scored the next two goals in the first quarter and put Costa up 4-0 at the end of the first.

“It was a great opportunity for our guys who don’t normally get an opportunity to play to get out there and score some goals for us. We go into playoffs next week so we need to be prepared going forward,” coach David Vinci said.

Senior defender Cole Russert, junior defender Jordan Martucci and junior midfielder Julian Trivers also put points on the board for the Mustangs.

“Even though it was an easy game, we’ve got a hard road ahead of us and need to keep our focus,” Hafdell said.
