The Mira Costa football team faced the Newport Harbor Sailors on the road on Oct. 6. The game resulted in a 33-3 loss, which gives the Mustangs an overall 1-4 record.
Both teams were off to a slow start but the Mustangs scored first with a field goal late in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Sailors answered with 10 points to take a 10-3 lead at the half.
To start the second half, Newport running back Titus Hasson ran 52 yards for a touchdown. After the Sailors took a 17-3 lead early in the second half, the Mustangs were unable to answer. The Mustangs threw two interceptions, both of which resulted in Newport touchdowns, contributing to the Mustangs’ loss.
The Mustangs face West Torrance on October 14 at 7 p.m. at Waller Stadium for their Bay League opener.
