The Mira Costa Mustangs faced Peninsula High School on Friday Oct. 28 in their third Bay League game of the season. Coming off a loss to Palos Verdes and falling to 1-1 in Bay League, the Mustangs defeated Peninsula 31-8 and are now 2-1 in Bay League and 3-5 overall.
After his record breaking performance against West Torrance with almost 400 rushing yards, senior running back Brandon Edmond had two touchdowns in the second half to extend the Mustangs’ lead.
The Mustangs’ victory can be largely attributed the running game which the Panthers couldn’t answer. Senior running back Steve Giovatti had a short touchdown to add to Edmond’s two. Junior wide receiver Raphael Lawson-Gale also took a hand-off 14 yards for a touchdown.
To compliment the explosive rushing game, the Mustangs’ defense and passing game helped subdue the Panthers. The defense forced three turnovers and only gave up a single touchdown. Junior quarterback Ryan Sweigart, the third starting quarterback of the season, played well and won his second game for Costa.
The Mustangs continue their road game streak at Leuzinger on Friday Nov. 4 in their fourth game of League play.
