In order to succeed in gymnastics, one has to have extreme perseverance and focus.
Sophomore Delaney Brow demonstrates both these traits and more. Although she doesn’t meet the citizenship requirement to be on the U.S. Olympic team, she aspires to join the Canadian team for the 2012 London Olympics.
“I could apply for U.S. citizenship, but for me, since I am Canadian, it is easier just to work toward a spot on the Canadian team,” Brow said.
Gymnastics competitions are divided into levels ranging from one to 10, culminating in “elite.” Brow is a two-time state champion in levels six and seven, and recently won the regional title in level nine.
“I started gymnastics when I was two years old. My mom signed me up for a class and I came to enjoy the thrill of the competition,” Brow said.
Brow says she has committed much of her life to gymnastics. She dedicates 100 hours a month to bettering her craft.
Through hard work and determination, Brow has made her way to not only the Olympic level but to the eligibility of a scholarship.
“If trying for the Olympics does not work out, I plan to go to college on a gymnastics scholar ship,” Brow said.
