The girls water polo team suffered a loss at home on Dec. 6 to Los Alamitos, 16-5. The loss brings its overall record to 4-2.
In the first half of the game, the team gave up 10 goals and scored only one.
“We lost to a better team today despite how hard we tried,” senior captain Samantha Horn said.
The Mustangs typically shut down their opponents on defense, but against a tough Los Alamitos team, Costa was unable to hold.
“We improved since the last time we played them when we scored two goals,” Horn said.
“There are a lot of areas that we need to improve on to get where we want to be at the end of the year,” senior Sarah Booth said.
The Mustangs showed true resiliency throughout the whole game by scoring five goals and playing hard until the final buzzer sounded in the fourth period against one of the best teams in Southern California.
“For us, there were a few opportunities for us to get shots and we executed,” Horn said.
The Mustangs still have a lot of work to do to turn their season around, but the players still display confidence in the team.
“We have a lot of technical work to do, but I believe this can be one of our best seasons yet if we work hard,” Booth said.
The Mustangs played Arroyo Grande on Thursday at home, but the results of the game were unavailable at the time of press.
