On Jan. 4, the Mira Costa boys basketball team traveled away to face El Segundo High School. The Mustangs won with a final score of 47-42, escalating their record to 12-3 overall.
“We jumped out to a 12-0 lead and then El Segundo tried chip away at it for the rest of the game,” head coach Jeff Amaral said.
Senior Cooper Pugnale led Costa with 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Sophomore Justin Strings followed with nine points and eight rebounds. Free throws by Pugnale and junior Cole Feaster went 6-8 in free throws to fasten Costa’s lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs will play at home on Jan. 6 against Morwood Palm Valley, a team coached by a Costa basketball alumn from the late 80’s and early 90’s.
