On Jan. 13, the Mira Costa boys basketball defeated rival Redondo Union High School in the Seahawks’ own home court for the Mustangs’ first Bay League win. The Mustangs won 60-59 in overtime, making their record 14-4 overall and 1-1 in Bay League.
The game was won in its final seconds of overtime when senior Cooper Pugnale sank a three-pointer to give Costa the one-point lead with seconds to go. Junior Cole Feaster led Costa with 16 points and sophomore Justin Strings followed with 15. Pugnale added 10 points but it was his defensive effort and final three-pointer that gave the Mustangs the much-needed edge to close out the game.
Costa will travel to Leuzinger High School on Jan. 17 for its third Bay League game of the season.
